Welcome

Greetings! On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to welcome you to our web site. Please feel free to look around, download any papers that may be of interest, and join our mailing list. Also, periodically check this site for new initiatives.

The GPTSW (aka “The Vermont Group”) is interested in being a forum for the global social work community to engage in respectful, stimulating, and informative dialogue. The transnational nature of the issues that concern social workers invites us to find ways of connecting and learning from one another.

Social work can have many meanings and be expressed in a variety of ways. Although this heterogeneity can present challenges, it also can be viewed as an asset – adaptive and creative responses to different contexts. However, to capitalize on this diversity we must find ways to coordinate our efforts, to identify commonalities and appreciate differences. We would like to hear from you on this issue. What do you see as the connecting threads of those who call themselves social workers? What experiences have you had with cross cultural collaborative practice, inquiry, or education? Send in your comments.

Unlike many organizations, the GPTSW does not aspire to become a large organization that is legitimized by mainstream institutions. Yet we want to be a resource to those for who find inspiration or importance in our ideas and ideals. Let us know what you might find helpful. I can be reached at [email protected]
